Balance & Boundaries

What does balance mean to you? Some people try for perfect balance in their lives each and every day. Others say balance is not possible and trying to achieve it causes a lot of stress. I like the idea of striving for some kind of balance but not expecting perfect balance. I want each area of my physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual wellness to be full up; but, I know that doesn’t happen every day. In fact, it rarely happens. That doesn’t mean I won’t keep trying because with every try, I get a little closer to making sure each part of me (mind-body-spirit) has some positive outcome. I’m not sure if my goal is to “fill up” or to build up enough for what I need each day. Do you think about balance? Does the concept work for you? Can the concept of balance help us carry our summer wellness achievements into a busy Fall season?

For me, balance has meant paying attention to what's needed that day or that week. If I'm feeling my body needs more attention, I'll get in extra walks or yoga, or it may mean extra naps! If it's spiritual, I ensure I'm getting my meditations in or listening to a podcast. Having said that, when I am filling each of those buckets on a regular basis, it helps to proactively "fill my cup" and therefore takes less time to recover from days where I'm not feeling my best.
